Summary Reader Response Draft 1

The built environment industry is recognized as one of the most dangerous globally, with safety being a paramount concern for companies on a global scale. Ensuring that site workers adhere to workplace regulations and are adequately outfitted with personal protective equipment (PPE) is imperative daily to safeguard them from potential accidents (V3 Smart Technologies, 2024). V3 Smart Technology's PPE detection system ensures construction site safety with advanced features. It seamlessly detects staff wearing construction gear, regardless of lighting conditions or gear manufacturer. The system goes beyond by offering remote construction site monitoring and providing centralized oversight to managers through a user-friendly platform. Real-time safety alerts for PPE non-compliance enable swift corrective action, bolstering worker protection and enhancing overall safety on construction sites. With this cutting-edge technology developed by V3 Smart Technology, there is significant poten

Description about Real-Time PPE Detection with Computer Vision and AI (V3SmartTech) (Photo taken V3SmartTech website) 1) I have started by getting a quick information from ChatGPT on any technology in civil engineering field that uses AI to make the job of workers in the construction field effective or safe. I have simply input "Provide me some examples of available technology that uses AI in civil engineering field" in ChatGPT for a possible list of available AI technologies.  2) I was drawn to one of the AI applications which was provided by ChatGPT known as 'Real-Time PPE Detection with Computer Vision and AI' . 3) I prompted ChatGPT further on the technology's capabilities and limitations and its functions so that I can gain a quick sense of technology's effectiveness as to whether this is a good topic for me to touch on for thesis. I have simply input "Provide me with the technology's capability and limitations as well as functions". Note th

Descriptive Reflection - Introductory Email

Greetings Mr Blackstone, This email serves as a short introduction about me and my goals for Critical Thinking and Communicating module. I took up civil engineering programme at Singapore Polytechnic in 2018 as I was encouraged by my father to give the programme a try. Taking up civil engineering has provided me with valuable insights and a sense of purpose as I gradually have come to understand the importance of proper designs in various infrastructures. My interest in civil engineering stems from my strengths in math and physics and as well as interest in analyzing and finding solutions to challenges. One of my communication strengths is the ability to speak clearly and confidently one-to-one. I used to serve as a staff administrator during National Service and I handled matters concerning National Service personnel’s allowances and leave issues. Being a staff administrator during National Service made me realise that I can deliver clear messages and instructions one-to-one. However,

"Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter." Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp. To me, this means that communication skills are a powerful tool for leaders to influence and give orders. Influential leaders who speak with confidence and clarity can easily convince people around them as long as their messages are logical and sensible. Weak messages tend to be ignored or even mislead others. One of the prominent leaders who is influential is Lee Hsien Long. In the peak of Covid, he played an important role in ensuring that everyone abided by the rules through his televised messages. Hence, it is important for leaders to have communication skills
