Class Activity 3

"Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective

leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a

sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across

clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even

matter."

Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp.

To me, this means that communication skills are a powerful tool for leaders to influence and give orders. Influential leaders who speak with confidence and clarity can easily convince people around them as long as their messages are logical and sensible. Weak messages tend to be ignored or even mislead others. One of the prominent leaders who is influential is Lee Hsien Long. In the peak of Covid, he played an important role in ensuring that everyone abided by the rules through his televised messages. Hence, it is important for leaders to have communication skills to be effective.
